About Inserts
Dry-block calibrators are designed with inserts that contain holes bored into them, matching the standard diameters used for RTDs, PRTs, and thermocouples. These inserts range from A, B, C, D, E, to F (or Z blank), with each providing from four up to six varying diameter holes to accommodate the probes. Some RTDs, which can be inserted into thermal wells, have large protective sheaths and flanges. This can make calibration challenging, which also makes the choice of an insert all the more imperative. To ensure safe and easy insertion and removal of probes, choose an insert with the smallest hole diameter possible, but with sufficient clearance. After each use, the insert should be removed and buffed to maintain its effectiveness.
